Katie Waugh

"An art education provides students creative agility and aesthetic criticality - qualities needed in a visually oriented culture. My goal is to help students skillfully, purposefully merge their aesthetic and intellectual passions. The process of developing a meaningful, engaging art practice requires self-motivation and critical thinking. These skills benefit all art students, in any career they choose."

Katie Waugh is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work centers on ideas of performativity, social protocol, and collective aspiration. She works primarily with video and fiber installations, as well as drawing, photography, and performance. She welcomes the diverse academic interests and broadly informed perspective of Wells students, encouraging them to incorporate concepts from other disciplines into their work and develop the kind of research-based studio practice that fuels a great deal of contemporary art.
