Wells alumna Pleasant Thiele Rowland '62 will deliver the 2014 Commencement address.
The following letter was sent to the members of the Wells senior class.
Dear Members of the Class of 2014:
I am thrilled to share that Wells alumna, Pleasant Thiele Rowland ’62, has accepted our invitation and will be your Commencement speaker this year. Ms. Rowland is an innovative and dedicated educator, accomplished business woman and a well-known philanthropist whose work has contributed greatly to the village of Aurora and the College. Her accomplishments and recognition reflect positively on her Wells education. In a speech she delivered when she received the College’s Alumnae Award, Ms. Rowland noted that her liberal arts education, "gave me a breadth of knowledge that I have used as a constant resource in a variety of very different jobs; the ability to think as a generalist, the written and verbal skills to clearly and accurately express my thoughts, a standard of excellence, and the self-confidence to tackle the rocky terrain in the roads that lay ahead." I think she will be a wonderful speaker for you as you reflect on the value of your Wells educations!
Thank you to your Class Officers and the senior members of Collegiate Cabinet for their input in helping us select such an extraordinary alumna to help commemorate your time at Wells, as well as to all who shared your feelings about the best location for Commencement.
